MONEY & TRUST

"i’ve been in workshops with banking clients where we’ve posed this question: what is the purpose of your company, why are you here? And it’s very often followed by a long silence."

- Andrew Radcliffe, Partner at PwC

As the demand for purpose is slowly growing with small/medium businesses, there is an opportunity for auditors to become thought-leaders in this space by bringing these renewed business objectives upfront as part of their reporting and leadership. In this way, we need to establish trust around the purpose of companies by exploring how the audit profession might help companies articulate and lead with purpose.

Based on the research insights, auditing has the potential to be proactive in the financial sector. And given that Millennials are highly motivated, curious enough to question and challenge the status quo, these are the future leaders who will drive this profession forward through a shift in what the sector is looking for in companies, moving from profit measurement to profit-purpose alignment.

In response to the changing dynamics of the auditing profession, I challenged the role of audit to expand its expertise beyond measuring and evaluating quantitative impact. The service proposition is called Futureblend, which is a co-creative programme hosted by an auditor who brings together key stakeholders of a business to help align business profit with purpose for long term impact. The programme is dedicated to achieving and maintaining a tasteful blend of profit and purpose across small businesses to impact a healthy future throughout our society, economy and environment. The below platform serves to facilitate the auditor's role in measuring purpose-driven impact. Please also feel free to refer to the report for further research insights and concept development.
